Event details

Aibunawa Study Group

Aibunawa, the caressing rope of Yukimura Haruki sensei, is a style of kinbaku focused on exploration of sensuality and eroticism, typically tying on the floor.

What It Is:

Aibunawa Study Group events will have a mix of instruction and guided practice, and possibly jam time.

As the style is focused on partner-based tying, this event is designed for tying pairs, not for singles. Given the limited time available, switching during an event is discouraged.

A limited number of individuals are welcome to attend as observers.

Instruction:

Each event will start with a class of an hour or so. Classes will focus on one or two ideas from my approach to aibunawa - something technical (such as anchor and handcuff - single and double-column tie), a pattern (kemono-shibari, kata-ashi), or a more conceptual topic such as the practice of ma-ai (proper distance).

Guided practice:

After the instruction session is finished, participants are encouraged to practice the day's concepts, slowing down to dig into the subtlety and nuance of this style. This might mean tying the same thing several times in a row, taking time and giving attention to every step of the path.

Practice time can also be an opportunity to ask questions and get focused attention on some particular topic or technique that you might need help with.

What It Isn't:

Aibunawa Study Group is not an aibunawa-themed rope jam. In some editions the last hour may be more of a jam, depending on how things go during class and practice time, but we will focus on practice over open tying.

Those with no previous experience in kinbaku or aibunawa are welcome to attend as an observer, but these events are not intended as a practical class for those starting from zero.

I want to come!

People who have previously studied with me, whether as the person tying (rigger) or the person-in-ropes, will be given attendance priority. If you've studied with other teachers of the style (licensed Yukimura-ryu teachers, or those with a deep practice of aibunawa) and want to refresh or explore a different perspective, be welcome!

These events are not intended as a hands-on learning opportunity for those with little or no experience with shibari. As mentioned above, people new to kinbaku or aibunawa are welcome as observers.

The fine print:

Doors will open at 19:15, class starts at 19:30. Please arrive in time to be ready to start promptly at 19:30.

I may ask for help to set everything up.

Tickets:

Since this is a bit of an experiment, tying pair (participant) tickets are password-protected, at least for the initial sessions. This will allow me to prioritize those with prior experience.

  • Tying pair: 40€ (contact me for the password, or if you would like to request a low-income ticket)
  • Solo observer: 15€

Upcoming dates:

28 October / 4 November / 9 December
